Journal 9–Essay Revision Reflection

During the process of writing and revision of my last essay, I spent the most time revising structuring of my sentences. I’ve found, through my own proofreading and my peers, that I ended up writing very lengthy and wordy sentences that would’ve been easier when trimmed and reformatted. So that I did. I wouldn’t change a thing from what I’ve experienced throughout the in-class revision format due to how streamlined and helpful it really was for me. I believe my essay looks a lot better now with the help of multiple peers and their input on it. This drafting/revising process is much different from essays I’ve written prior. Typically, I would write a lengthy essay, go through and proofread and add different synonyms to words that could be much wordier (for sophistication), and call it a day—truly being proud of the work that I created, might I add. The last process on this essay was much more dynamic than that. Drafts were created. Thought was added. Sentences were not simply tweaked, but reworked and checked for flow, credibility, relevance, etc. I truly expected this revision process for this class as I believe most college courses teach you how (or put you on the right track to) master a subject. I feel much more comfortable with writing an essay now and for the future with the skills I’ve learned throughout this first true essay written in this course.
