Journal 17—Skeptics May Object

In this text, the author tells the reader that within their writing, it’s best to anticipate what the criticisms will be in an argument that you write. With anticipation of such, you write down within the text to what possibly would be used against you. This would thus give you more credibility. “We are urging you to tell readers that others might say against you, but our point is that doing so will actually enhance your credibility, not undermine it” (78). I would agree to this because when writing an argument, you want to be solid on your foundation for the argument itself. However, it sounds better (at least, to me) if you back up what the criticisms may say against you. This gives you and the reader the knowledge of the known issues with your argument and that the author is cognizant of such.
